Batman Arrested in London

July 22, 2008

What is it with stars and their inability to stay out of trouble?  Check out this story in the Sun.  Batman star Christian Bale was arrested in London under charges that he assaulted his mother and sister.  The Dark Knight apparently had a Dark Moment.

With each punch I wonder if a cartoonish “Wham” “Kazam” “POW” appeared over his head.

Jeeping, jimminey crickets Batman, what were you thinking?

Instead of spending time in THE bat cave he may have to spend time in A bat infested cave known more as a jail cell.  Bale recently told a reporter he has been having bouts with depression and insomnia, but everyone knows bats don’t sleep at night.

McCain-Romney Like Ali-Frazier

July 19, 2008

Could it be, the foes of the past are joining forces?  John McCain and Mitt Romney on one ticket is like putting Elmur Fudd and Buggs Bunny on the same ticket.  That analogy has nothing to do with their personalities only the fact that the two don’t like each other.  (Though Democrats may snicker at the comparison.)

Last I checked the two went through a knock down drag out brawl of a primary.  But forgiveness is key if you want to win a trip to the oval office.  I imagine the thought behind the ticket is with both of them running, there is something for everyone (who will vote republican).  You have to wonder if the Democrats will follow suit and team up Obama with Hilliary.

Democrats Get Fried over Decision Not to Fry

July 17, 2008

I have long contended that many politicians are misguided fools.  They go into public service as well educated, sharp young men and women but leave as dumb as a box of rocks.  I am not sure why this is, but it seems to work for both democrats and republicans alike.

The latest form of idiocracy comes in the form of a no fried food mandate at the Democratic National Convention.  A so called, “No Fry Zone.”  I agree fried anything is not healthy, but grown men and women should be allowed to decide for themselves what to eat.  Beyond that, there is another issue the democrats failed to think of before making the absurd decision to ban fried foods from the festivities.

The south has typically been ruled by two things, the republicans and fried food.  With all the hard work Barrack Obama has put into courting southern voters, why ostracize them now?  Southerners love their heart attacks on a plate.  There is fried: okra, potatoes, steak, chicken, catfish, even fried Twinkies.

With the National Conventions nearly upon us, I now declare, “Let the Silliness Begin!”

UPDATE: Pools and Kids a Deadly Combination

July 9, 2008

NBC5 has just learned the 18 month old girl died today.  My sincerest sympathies go out to the family.

Let me take a moment to also apologize to anyone offended by my perceived insincerity in my post below.  I was scolded by Grant’s Rant readers, my wife, and the moms of the NBC5 news room.  All of whom pointed out, I do not have kids and failed to realize how easy it is for them to scurry away.

I want everyone to know, I left my live shot last night truly depressed about what had happened and my only intention in writing the post below was to try to help ensure it doesn’t happen again.

I do feel for the family and I hope and pray they can get through this tragedy somehow.  As a good friend of mine who lost her two daughters once said, “Nothing prepares a parent to bury a child.”  I was impressed with the outpouring of support the family had from their neighbors.  I am sure the mother and father are in good hands.

Pools and Kids, A Deadly Combination

July 9, 2008

Pools and kids do not mix. Last night a 3 year old boy died after somehow scurrying away from his fathers attention.  The worst part is that child had his 18 month old sister with him.  The two ended up at the bottom of the family pool.

By late evening the toddler still had a pulse, her older brother was dead.  Coppell Police are now asking tough questions about a horrible accident.

As bad as I feel for the family, I can’t imagine what they are going through.  Guilt, sadness, remorse are just a few emotions that come to mind. The worst part is, it didn’t need to happen.

In reality there is no excuse for not keeping a watchful eye on your children especially with a pool nearby.  I am sure their father realizes this and will never forgive himself for making that mistake.  Sadly, he’s not alone, it happens to 100s of mindful, decent and loving parents each year.

Most parents will tell you, its easy to lose track of the little ones and it only takes a few seconds for a kid to end up in the water.  The experts say drowning is a silent death.  There is no splashing or screaming, the kids most likely sank quietly to the bottom without even making a ripple.

It is a sad reminder to all parents, teach your kids the dangers of water early in life and don’t let them near a pool without supervision.  A pool alarm and a fence are always best with kids around.

A-Rod Dubbed “Stray-Rod” and the Looming Divorce

July 7, 2008

The wife of baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez is finally saying enough is enough.  Tired of her husbands late night escapades with Madonna, Cynthia Rodriguez is filing for a divorce.  That’s the word anyway and court papers could be filed later this morning.

The reason: “A long period of infidelity.”

Is studying Kabbalah with a whacked out, sex crazed music star count as cheating?  If it does A-Rod is toast.

Happy 4th of July

July 4, 2008

We should all take this time to pay tribute to the men and women who put their lives on the line to serve this country.

On a lighter note:

My wife asked me this morning, “How do married people celebrate INDEPENDENCE Day?”

I answered:  “We take time to remember our wild college days.”

My Father said: “I don’t think you spending my money during college counts as being independent.”

Burglars Beware!

July 3, 2008

A Houston Grand Jury declined to indict the 62 year old man who shot and killed two burglars fleeing his neighbors house.  The decision to give vigilante Joe Horn a pass is causing quite a stir.  The case, as the New York Times puts it, is raising questions of ethnic bias, property rights and self defense.  For me the case boils down to one simple fact… two men shot were low life burglars with no regard for the law or society.  I really don’t care what their families say, the moment you decide to break into another man’s home any goodness you may posses is gone with the wind.

If those two thieves don’t break the law, they never get shot.  Remember being burglarized is a terrifying ordeal.  A stranger rummaging through your personal belongings is scary enough, God forbid you are home when two crooks come calling.

The legal problem for Horn is, it wasn’t Joe Horns house and the 9-1-1 operator told him to stay inside.  Instead, Horn confronted the men with a shot gun, and may have even shot the thieves in the back.  I still say the thieves are responsible for putting Horn in that position.  When two burglars rob your neighbors house, who is to say they don’t come back and rob your house?

Warning to potential burglars: White, black, Hispanic or Asian, if a burglar comes to my house I will have no problem killing you on the spot.  Anyone who threatens the safety and security of my family be warned.  I also hereby give permission to my neighbors to shoot and kill anyone trying to break into my home.  My worst fear is that my wife and dog are home alone when a thief comes calling.

I do know I have one very big neighbor who lives across the street from me, he keeps a 9mm handy at all times.  He has already saved my wife and dog from an attacking pit bull.  Lets hope he doesn’t have to save them from no good, low down, thieving burglars.

There is one more reason the Grand Jury refused to indict Horn.  We are in Texas.  Gun rights and property rights rule the land.  There is no Texas Jury that would ever convict this man, why spend thousands on a trial that prosecutors can’t win.

The Truth About Milk Prices!

July 1, 2008

I can’t figure out why everyone is crying about the rising cost of milk.  I haven’t had a glass of milk in 10 years.  I did have a bowl of cereal back in 2004 but since then I haven’t touched the stuff.  I never really liked milk, maybe its because I am lactose intolerant.

My refrigerator usually has one of those small carton’s of milk in it.  My wife often eats granola cereal.  By often I mean once a month.  If milk producers could find a way to make the white stuff last, one small carton would last us 12 weeks.

So who is drinking milk?  Maybe the Stinchfield household isn’t feeling the milk crunch because we don’t have any kids or cats.  I guess young families go through lots of milk.  Here is my solution for them: Give your kid a calcium pill and try mixing their frosted flakes with diet coke instead.

When the price of wine and vodka start going up, then the Stinchfields have a real problem.

Electric Companies Do it Again….

June 24, 2008

The nations energy crisis is not just affecting our pocket books but apparently the rising cost of electricity is putting some small electric providers out of business.  Four companies just up and left the Texas market leaving 36-thousand customers high and dry.

The state is switching those customers but many were not told of the change and the new plan is in some cases 40% higher then their old one.

Many of the customers even had a contract with their provider.  If the customer broke the contract they would have been forced to pay $200.  One viewer raised a valid point, insisting the electric companies should be forced to live up to the same standard… If the company breaks the contract it should pay the customer $200.  What’s fair is fair!

The companies leaving Texas are:

  1. National Power
  2. Pre-Buy Electric
  3. E-Tricity
  4. Riverway Electric
