The Price of Power

January 30, 2007

Anyone who pays the electric bill every month knows what a “Shocker” it can be. Every North Texan I’ve spoken with insists the “Price of Power” is just to high. The reality is it’s costing consumers more then just their hard earned money. Some North Texans are taking second jobs just to pay the monthly bill, while other people suffer through the cold winters and hot summers because they can’t afford to run the heater or air conditioner.

This Blog, and our new NBC5 series, “The Price of Power” is dedicated to everyone out there who is sick and tired of outrageously high energy bills. I vow to do my best to keep you, the viewer, informed about why our rates here in Texas are so high and even more importantly what can be done to lower them.

NBC5 is committed to holding the electric companies, politicians, the media and in some cases even consumers accountable for the Texas energy crisis. Make no mistake there are some legitimate reasons for the skyrocketing prices. Natural Gas hit an all time high, de-regulation never took off as expected and we all waste electricity.

Over the course of the next few months we will explore all of these issues and more. In the end we are confident our efforts will lead to lowering “The Price of Power” in Texas.
